Just One More: Lemur-themed children's book!

Dear art friends,

I've been working on my kickstarter for a while, and it could use a boost. I'd really like to reprint this cute children's book, and could use your help. If you could give me a signal boost, I'd really appreciate it!
Support "Just One More", a tale of a lemur and the kiwis she can't wait to eat! Please share! There are just ten days left!

The Empress

Finished up this card.  I'd had her inked for a while, but I had my watercolors out for another project and just decided to go all in and finish her.

Still slowly working on this tarot deck in my spare time.

Behold!  The Empress.

Bobcat!

Oh man, this took up many of my days, but I'm happy with it.  Here's the phone photo for now.  Hopefully the light will be better tomorrow to get a print-worthy shot of this before it's sent to its new home.

Children's Book Kickstarter!

Hello, friends!  I am running a Kickstarter to fund the printing of my children's book, Just One More.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/601723900/just-one-more-lemur-themed-childrens-book?ref=video

The book features Lili the lemur and her quest to gather every kiwi in her rainforest home.  It's lovingly illustrated in the style above, and is one of my favorite things I've made!

Day 4: Acorn 2!

Another happy little acorn.

If you prefer Tumblr, I'm at hootbark.com/tumblr.  These paintings will all be posted there as well.

Day 2: Tiny Dog

Double dipping a little.  This cute pup is a commission.  BUT STILL!  Day 2, 30 paintings 30 days.

Day 1: Bobcat

Day one!  Just under the deadline, too.   Happy with this handsome fella.  He's only 3x3" and honestly... probably about the same amount of work as if I'd done him three times that size.  I'm using this 30 days of painting as an excuse to use up some of my tinier art materials, though.

29 more to go!

30 Paintings in 30 Days

http://30paintingsin30days.weebly.com/

I'M SO READY!  Starts September 1st, oh no, need to buy some more inking brushes.  It is the worst. A terrible tragedy that I must shop for art supplies. It's totally not what I want to be doing all the time.

Pink Flamingo!

Throwback Thursday!
So much pink!  Pretty bird on wood.  Hello, flamingo.  Actually was purchased by another artist, Ursula Vernon, at a convention/show we were both at.  I had a little bit of a moment when that happened, because her work is so awesome.

Lighthouse

SO.  I made the attempt last year to make this a teachable painting.
That was a mistake, it was way too complicated.

Still!  It's Summery

Angry Owl

Ah, this guy!  One of my favorite pieces.  On a really beefy canvas, too.

I need to handmake more canvases from brick moulding, because it made for some amazing surfaces to work on.

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday!

Oh man, this is an oldie but a goodie... I do miss painting on wood, but this sort of thing tended to be too small, and end up with a lot of little detail.  I like working bigger these days. I think this one was around 9x12".

Pretty Birds

I've been going through my older artwork as I set up a new studio space, and I found these photos.

At the time I painted these, I was living in Erie, PA.  I do like the style of these, and I think I could learn from them and make new pieces in a similar style.  They're mixed media, watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil.  While I like some of the intricate details, I also like my more recent, larger pieces that have a touch more spontaneity and motion to them.

Panda Beer Shirt Up!

It is done and available for preorder!  Shipping in July, we have the glorious Beer Panda!

You are getting thirsty. Very thirsty. This is a limited edition shirt, showcasing the red panda (Ailurus fulgens) and its natural prey. While commonly thought to live off of bamboo, crickets and eggs, the panda's beer is the source of its sustenance, and mid-day lethargy.
Three colors on unisex or ladies cut shirt.

Fun with Fabric

Admittedly, I have been working on projects other than fabric.  That's a shame, because I love to do it!   I checked in recently and had a few color requests for my Deer Track fabric, so those are now in the works.  I've ordered samples, and the new colors should be available shortly.

Good Friends, Bones, Peroxide

You know you have good friends when they will happily assist your weird hobbies.
I LOVE bones.  So pretty!   I take a lot of rides in my cabin-neighbor’s dog transport van, and if she sees a plant or anything else she wants on the side of the road, we pull over and bag it.
This time, we were out and she saw a new flower she wanted for her garden.  Out of the van we leapt... and right by her new plant was a very worn down deer carcass.   We spotted this jawbone, and I lamented that I’d have to come back later to grab it.  And she, like any good friend, handed me a plastic bag.
Later that evening she brought over just what I needed: the sketchbook I’d left on her deck and some peroxide.  The picture of the jawbone is its current state.  It will be in the 50/50 water/peroxide mixture for the rest of the week.  I look forward to using it as part of a still life composition.

Sphinx

Sometimes, I do art just for myself.  Happy with this gal so far.  Digital paint, a lot of blending.  Mythology is always fun to come back to...

Anyway. Her head needs to be shrunk a bit, I think.  Need to figure out what to do for a background as well.

More Skull Progress

So many layers, but this is what's on my desk now... The initial piece was a little too dark, so you can see that I'm lightening it up in the next one.

Skulls are so lovely!  I imagine I'll use the money from selling these to buy MORE skulls...

Tiger Skull Progress

Acrylic painting, tiger skull, lotus root, lotus bud.  Nice progress thus far!
